JANE (Film, 2021)

The process of JANE began when I was flying back to Tel Aviv and listened to "Your Sweet Love" on my earphones. The face of Amalia, who I have long before wanted to work with, immediately took over my imagination. Amalia Jane Smith is one of the most inspiring dancers I have ever seen, she posses the ability to grip your eyes and heart and never let go. I love the creativity, musicality and humor that she always exudes. On top of that she has that mona lisa face, if mona lisa was also a robot woman, something classic but out of the ordinary - familiar, nostalgic and then strange and alienating. The very first "strangers' eyes" I had in mind when listening to the song. I am blesses with a talented partner and talented frined that helped to me put my fragmented vision into action. I was inspired by seeing Bathsheva's dance studio becoming a filming set at the time we were all filming. I also loved seeing how my partner Ben Green and Myy Jeraffi used projection in their film to creat a world, I loved that, and wanted JANE to exist in such a world, but one that somehow exposes the craft that goes into that. Jeraffi, who also helped me film, introduced me to "the Love Scene" from "Singing In The Rain", which perfectly set Amalia in this Old Hollyood environment, and made Jane into Jullie Andrews or Judy Garland. The projection had to change during the filming from pink clouds (inspired by the movie) to these mountains from an old photgraph, that became the opening theme (edited by Ben), and were beatifully lit by Nir Gavrieli. I love this project because so it was then that I truly leant it do take a village.
